We had engaged Metcalf Cranes to do some of the lifting and found the team to be very professional and supportive of our requirements. The second stage of the project was to lift more PAC units and Smoke Spill Fans onto the existing roof, which was going to be difficult to undertake via a Mobile Crane. Through discussions held, it was decided to investigate the use of a helicopter to lift the equipment onto the roof. An initial meeting was held with Tim Metcalf from Metcalf Heli Services, and a site visit was undertaken to show Tim our requirements and needs. The client was extremely nervous about using a helicopter to lift the equipment onto the roof. Numerous meetings were held with Tim and Ben (Pilot) to go through many questions, ensuring the client was comfortable with the activity. All documentation requested—SWMS, procedures, insurance details, etc.—were supplied with no question. We finally got the approval to proceed from the builder, client, and shopping centre, and the morning was locked in. The day of the lift, we had 2 hours allocated for our lifts at first light (7:00 am - 9:00 am). All arrived at 5:30 am to prepare all the equipment for lifting, and it was raining. The two Dogmen and site staff commenced getting all the units slung and ready for first light. We had 21 pieces of equipment needing to be lifted onto the roof. Our first lift was just after 7:10 am, and our last lift was at 8:45 am. 21 lifts in total with no issues, and we finished in bright sunshine. The client, upon completion, came to me and thanked everyone for making it look so easy and safe. I would have no issues in using Metcalf Heli Services again or recommending them to others. I found all that were involved in the initial request and on the day to be supportive, helpful, and professional.
